The basis for classifying phrases
We distinguish the various phrases according to the following features :
In terms of the parts of speech, grammatical relations and meanings of their constituents.
In terms of whether their constituents are arranged in a fixed order.
In terms of the ways in which their constituents are connected, ie. whether conjunctions are employed and if so what kind of conjunctions are employed.
In terms of whether the phrase can be preceded or followed by other elements and of what kind these elements are.
